Back to Square One

Ever since we went on our trip, C hasn't been doing so well.  He's had a rash on his face that recently spread to his chest and legs, he's been fussy, spitting up more, etc.  At first I thought I had eaten something contaminated with dairy or soy and that's what was causing the reaction, but it hasn't improved much and since we were out of town when I was reintroducing some things, it was hectic and rushed and not done properly.

So, I'm going back to a top 8 free diet.  No dairy, soy, egg, wheat, peanut, tree nut, fish, or shellfish.

Sorry for the lack of recipes, I haven't been doing anything new.  Since I'm restricting my diet so much again, I'll have to come up with some new stuff soon, and I'll post when I can.  :)

  1. I really feel for you! I'm in a similar boat right now...breastfeeding and my son can't handle dairy, eggs, pineapple, or onion so far. I'm just waiting for soy to be next, since it usually follows dairy.

This isn't meant as an ad, but someone from the AP board on thebump.com posted your cookie recipe and just in case it is helpful I wanted to share since I really do understand. I have a friend who has a lot of food allergies and knows so much about it she became a coach. When I decided to do an elimination diet, she helped me tremendously...with her help I decided to eliminate the top 8, plus sesame, corn, onions, tomatoes, and garlic. Man, I think corn was the worst! She makes amazing recipes and has a good many of them easily accessible, so even if you don't use her beyond that, her recipes are awesome (and always dairy, egg, soy, and gluten free if not more!).

    Here is her site: http://tilthforhealth.com/

Also, have you heard of ghee? It is clarified butter and doesn't have any lactose or casein in it, which means it is allergen-free. It is a little more expensive than Earth Balance, but in dishes where you want a delicious buttery flavor, a little goes a long way. To be cost effective, I use ghee in sautes and the like, but Earth Balance when I bake.

Feel free to email me if you'd like to chat, share recipes, etc. It is nice to find someone else who understands.

Ooh also! If there is a co op grocery store near you, check there for allergen-free stuff. My co-op is great...it has an awesome selection and it is a lot cheaper than Whole Foods on many items!
